Worst Loss of Season

PHILADELPHIA - Hate losing to the Phillies. Can't help it. It's in my blood.

That blood was boiling after this loss, a 14-12 debacle stamped by Didi Gregorius drilling a walk-off, three-run homer off Edwin Diaz two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Where do we begin? How about with the Mets holding a 10-2 lead in the middle of the fifth?

Don't have the words to accurately describe the aftermath of this one. Being in a slugfest is great when you win and, even when you come up short, you can tip your cap.

Not this time. Can't be blowing eight-run leads. I thought this was our chance to get some paybacks for hit batters but, should have known better. Instead, Diaz pegs Rhys Hoskins with two outs in the ninth (absolutely the wrong time to exact some revenge) and a Neil Walker already aboard on a walk before serving one up to Gregorius.

An absolute nightmare. Michael Wacha labors into the sixth, giving up 10 hits and eight runs. Brad Brach yields two runs in a third of an inning, Justin Wilson, Dellin Betances and Robert Gsellman stabilize us to get to the ninth with a 12-11 edge and Diaz blows his second save of the season with a walk, hit batter and blast.

Like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

The pitching woes ruin an offensive outburst that featured Wilson Ramos going 4 for 4 and raising his average to .292. Pete Alonso belted his ninth homer, Robinson Cano, who was 3 for 6, and Jeff McNeil each knocked in three runs and Amed Rosario finished 3 for 5.

Jean Segura was 4 for 5 with three runs and five RBI powered by two home runs for the Phillies and Bryce Harper clocked his 14th homer amongst Philadelphia's 15 hits.

The win completed a sweep of the day/night doubleheader and extended the Mets' losing streak to four.
