Wildest Win of the Year!!

Updated: Jul 25, 2020

PHILADELPHIA - Mets take 2 of 3 in Philly, move to 56-49, 1/2 game out of second wild card.

Game 103 - Mets 16, Phillies 15

Sigh of relief!

It took eight pitchers, 16 hits and a historic performance from Jeff McNeil to help the Mets outlast Philadelphia, 16-15, it what was easily the wildest victory of the season for the Amazins.

Need a trip to the ER to address the bleeding digits caused from biting the nails off of all ten fingers. In a contest that featured 10 home runs, including three players launching multiple bombs, McNeil was the indisputable long-ball king of the evening. The Flying Squirrel belted three dingers, none more decisive than his two-run shot in the 10th, part of his six-RBI performance. Michael Conforto added a pinch-hit solo homer and Yoenis Cespedes dumped a bases-empty tater that proved to be an all-important insurance run.

The Phillies tagged Edwin Diaz for three runs in the bottom of the 10th to close to within a run. However, with two outs and the bases loaded, Dellin Betances, pitching on pure fumes, struck out Matt Szczur to close out an exhausting triumph.

Game 104 - Phillies 6, Mets 5

Mets add another example of how painfully they can give away early leads. Pete Alonso's two-run homer in the first sparked New York to a 3-0 advantage, a distant memory after former Met Jay Bruce unloaded a homer off Jeurys Familia leading off the bottom of the ninth to walk the Phils off.

The Mets led by as much as 5-0 through three innings before Steven Matz gave it all back over the fourth and fifth innings.

With three more hits, Amed Rosario passed Jeff McNeil to lead the Mets with his .303 batting average.

Game 105 - Mets 6, Phillies 2

Strong performance from Noah, who allows three hits and strikes out nine over seven innings to move to 11-7.

Thor also was instrumental in a show of muscle in which the Mets clubbed five homers, pocketing his second of the season. His defense has been Gold-Glove worthy but it's always nice when Jake Marinsnick contributes with the bat and his solo shot in the seventh was part of a three-run uprising that created some breathing room.
