de-Grominant!

Jacob deGrom cast a rather formidable first impression in pursuit of a third consecutive Cy Young Award, spinning seven scoreless innings that featured seven strikeouts against two walks, as the Mets added another chapter to their dominating Opening Day history by blanking the defending World Series champion Nationals, 5-0.

The Mets unveiled just a portion of the bullpen they are counting on to follow their ace's lead. Seth Lugo and off-season acquistion Dellan Betances each handled a clean inning of relief to seal the verdict.

Spicing up the triumph was it coming at the expense of Max Scherzer, who the Mets tagged for four runs over the his five innings of work. Brandon Nimmo's two-run double in the second opening the scoring and was part of a 2-for-2 showing that included three RBI. Wilson Ramos unloaded a solo homer in the sixth.
