Keep Putting Some Distance

Prosperous weekend in Flushing as the Mets took 2 out of 3 from the Braves.

Some quick hitters from the weekend...

*Jake Marisnick, whose defense in center field has been nothing short of spectacular, endeared himself with the bat, delivering his first signature base hit with an RBI single in the 12th that pushed Mets past Atlanta, 3-2. Marisnick's heroics were preceded by some from Dom Smith, who belted a game-tying solo homer in the ninth that tied the game at 2-2.

*Wasted Steven Matz's best start of the season on Saturday night, falling to Braves, 3-2. Matz fanned six, walked one and gave up two hits over seven scoreless innings. Jeurys Familia, who has been terrific out of the pen, endured his first shortcoming. Atlanta tagged him for three runs in the eight. Robinson Cano countered with a two-run homer in the bottom half but couldn't create the tying run, ending a five-game win streak.

*Had to feel good for Amed Rosario on Sunday. Arrival of Chris Taylor has give Mets luxury to rest Rosario, coinciding with an icy slump at the dish. He broke out in a timely manner, stroking an RBI double in the eighth that was good enough to lift the Mets to a 5-3 victory. A four-run second built a lead that the Mets never surrendered but Rosario's run-scoring knock was needed insurance. Rick Porcello (4-0) rang up eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.
