WASHINGTON, D.C. - Thor dropped his mighty hammer...and it could not have been timilier.
Noah Syndergaard delivered an absolute gem, spinning a four-hitter shutout as the Mets halted a five-game losing skid by blanking the Nationals, 7-0.
Thor was at his finest, casting the image of dominance that Met fans have envisioned from him on a consistent basis since the outset of his career. He silenced the defending world champions on 104 pitches, registering 10 strikeouts against two walks.
Backing his superb display was a rejuvenated offense that exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth, keyed by a two-run single from Rene Rivera.
The win also pushed New York back into sole possession of first place in the NL East, a half game up on the Braves while Nats dropped two games off the pace.
