WASHINGTON, D.C. - Just what the doctor ordered.
In his second start since coming off the IL, Jacob deGrom resumed his usual form. Staked to a four-run cushion before setting foot on the mound, deGrom responded with seven solid innings, scattering five hits and conceding a solo home run to Victor Robles as the Mets topped the Nats, 6-2.
An RBI single by Jeff McNeil was followed by a two-run homer from Yoenis Cespedes as the offense made its presence felt in the top of the first. Pete Alonso added a solo blast in the fifth, his 12th of the season.
It was the second straight win for New York and maintained its half-game edge over the Braves in the NL East.
Starting to feel the 1 thru 6 portion of the lineup as it looks below. The averages speak for themselves and even Michael Conforto, who has been mired in a slump since his fast start, awoke with two hits, including a double.
