SAN DIEGO - The mighty Thor stikes again!

While he may not have been longed for a deep outing, Noah Syndergaard made the most of his time, backing his eighth victory his first home run of the season as the Mets completed the sweep of the Padres with a 4-2 triumph.

Syndergaard clubbed a two-run homer in the second to stake New York (46-38) to a 3-1 lead that it never relinquished. His one Achilles' heel - an excessive pitch count - showed Thor the exit after 98 pitches in five innings. He conceded five hits, four walks and fanned four before yielding to an amped-up bullpen.

Brad Brach, Jeurys Familia, Dellin Betances and Edwin Diaz each pitched a scoreless, hitless inning of relief.
